Adolescents and Families

Figuring out who you are and where you fit

Growing up is a time of figuring out who you are, separate from your family, while redefining what it means to be connected to your family.  In my work with adolescents and families, I focus on working with the adolescent and gaining an understanding of communication, values, and family patterns.  In order to help adolescents maintain long-term change, it is often important to look at the whole family as a system.  This allows for a greater understanding of how all of the parts and pieces fit together.  This approach can remove some blame and shame that individuals might feel and focuses on the interactions of family members as a way to help families heal and feel more connected.
